The current Audi A3 sedan was launched in 2013. That may not seem like that long ago and the freshness of the current car’s design supports this claim, but Audi’s product cadence means a mid-lifecycle refresh is just around the corner. Spy photos of a test mule confirm that deduction.

Of course this is a test mule and so it wears the typical psychedelic vinyl wrap meant to hide design details. Even still, there are always cues that can still be seen and that is very much the case on these cars undergoing winter testing likely in northern Sweden.

Most obvious of the changes is the reshaped grille. It is more structural in appearance, which means more like the current TT and A4. An updated front bumper, with changes mainly centered on the lower front fascia can also be seen. At the rear, the lighting signature of the taillights as further evolved.

What else do we know of the next A3 sedan? For starters, we’re expecting an RS 3 sedan to spawn from the car. That much has been confirmed by our factory sources. We also wouldn’t be surprised to see the arrival of an e-tron version of the sedan, something seemingly tipped off when Audi began calling its Sportback only e-tron by A3 e-tron Sportback rather than simply A3 e-tron as it was named when it first launched.
